Q: 2003 Honda Odyssey - Maint Req. Light?
My 2003 Odyssey has about 43000 miles on it and just a couple of weeks ago the maintenance requires light would flash about 3 or 4 times right after starting the car. I didn't think much of it because all the dummy lights come on when you start a vehicle, I just thought it was part of it's routine. But now it is always on. What causes this and how do I turn it off? We haven't had the car long. Any answers would be helpful.

A: It is telling you it is time for oil change. 1999 - 2003 Honda Odyssey 3.5L Symptom: The maintenance indicator light is flashing or illuminated. System: Maintenance and Emission Reminder Reset Test & Fix: To reset the Oil Change Maintenance Indicator Light in the gauge assembly, remove the ignition key from the ignition switch. Then press and hold the trip/reset button in the gauge assembly. While continuing to hold the trip/reset button in, put the key back into the ignition switch and turn the ignition switch to the run position. Continue to hold the trip/reset button until the Oil Change Maintenance Indicator Light turns off and resets. This procedure should take less than 1 minute to reset the light, but in some cases we have found this procedure to take up to 3 minutes.

Q: 2003 Honda Odyssey power window. Passenger's side window rolled down on it's own and will not roll up.?
I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey. My wife said she got in the vehicle this afternoon and after a minute or so the passenger's side window suddenly rolled down. It will not roll up. I just got home from work and too a look at it. I tried the switch on the driver's side and passenger's side and I can hear a sound that may sound like the motor engaging, but the window does not move. Any idea what this may be? Anything I can do to get the window up until I can get it serviced? Thanks!

A: Too bad Honda warranties don't cover hauntings. Just get it serviced asap and throw up a ghetto glad bag in the window if you have to wait a few days. You're looking at a $500 fix for the power window motor + installation. Really -- don't wait long. The glass may be off the track right now and susceptible to breaking, which will cost you even more.

Q: when should i change my timing belt on my 2003 honda odyssey and how much should it cost me?

A: Check your manual as it might tell you when... i would assume it should be changed at about 50 thousand miles...or evey 50 thousand miles... and as for the cost, well you should call around to each of your option repair shops and ask them for a estimate on your Van...they should be able to tell you a firm price of what yoyu will pay... some might be more or less expensive than others. Best wishes.

Q: Honda Odyssey 2003 problems with the radio (has error 1 on it) and it beeps 8 times during the night.?
My grandparents van's radio just says error1 on it. They havent done anything to it. Just did it out of the blue. How do they reset it (or can I reset it for them i should say). Also, they say that the van does about 8 beeps randomly during the night. The honda guy said it does that to tell you the doors are unlocked but they had them all locked the night they stayed over and I heard it do it. Not much of a problem but sometimes neighbors can hear it, more of a nuisance. Anyone with any ideas on these two. I know for honda they usually have a radio code (i have a 97 civic) but for the van how do you clear it. What to press/do first. Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

A: look for a 5 digit code on a sticker found on the side of the glove compartment. Usually on the outside left when you open it up. There are two numbers there - you want the five digit one. it should reset the radio codes. that is an antitheft code going off like the car battery might have went dead or was changed try this site it should help http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0bcce3

Q: Will the Thule 756XT Rapid Railing Roof Rack fit my 2003 Honda Odyssey?
I am looking to replace my current Saris roof rack set up and the 756XT is on sale since Thule does not make this anymore. However, in the Thule fit guide the 756XT comes up as discontinued so I have no idea if it will fit my 2003 Honda Odyssey. Thanks!

A: I think it would, just ask your dealer.

Q: anyone have an 2001 or 2003 Honda Odyssey?
I am llooking at both of these.. the '01 is $9,000 and the 2003 is 13,900.. the '03 has more bells and whistles.. I just need to know if anyone has one and will tell me personally how they like or not like it... Thanks..

A: 03 has 5 speed automatic transmission,thus better gas mileage.Good minivan overall,OEM parts are cheap.Like it.

Q: I bought a 2003 Honda Odyssey, what kind of gas do you use? Regular or premium, what is recomended? Thanks?

A: It should be in your owners manual. I would expect it to be either 89 or 91 Octane. By going down to a lower octane like 87 will reduce the performance of your van. Octane is a measurement of gasoline’s capacity to burn smoothly and evenly. The higher the octane number of the gasoline the more resistant it is to producing uneven combustion and the audible "knock" sound which, if allowed to continue can damage an engine. What is knocking? Spark knock is the sound of abnormal combustion. When combustion in a spark-ignition internal combustion engine is initiated by a spark, the flame front should fan out from the spark plug and travel across the combustion chamber rapidly and smoothly. If the last part of the air-fuel mixture ignites spontaneously (auto-ignites) before the flame front arrives, the sudden jump in the pressure in the cylinder creates the characteristic knocking or pinging sound. Knocking occurs because the octane of the gasoline is below the antiknock requirement of the engine at that moment. However, using lower grade should not cause any damage to your motor from knocking and pinging with lower grade fuel as your van should have a knocking sensor. You will lose performance and even your MPG will decrease with the use of the lower Octane. As well, if you use higher octane you are just throwing money out of your pocket. It will not increase your performance or even your MPG. Hope this helps.

Q: i have an 2003 Honda odyssey but the audio system does not work,?
probably the last owner set a code How can i reset the audio system in order to use it 'cause the system is on but i can't use it

A: if it says code look for a litle white sticker with a 5 digit number if not u need to pull the radio out and get the serial number off the radio then call a honda dealer and they can give u the code for it then just enter it in with the radio on and code on the display....if u dont enter the number correctly 3 times it will hard lock the radio and u will need to unhook the radio for 30 sec and then try it again

Q: Has anyone experienced a huge decrease in 2003 Honda Odyssey gas mileage after the recent Transmission Recall?
This is a great driving minivan, a 2003, which has the new transmission from a year or more ago--due to a recall. Since it's the wifes car I haven't checked the mileage in a long while, but I just noticed we are now getting ~20mpg, which is a huge drop from ~30mpg! This was purely by accident since I just borrowed the Odyssey for 2-3 days(100+ highway miles per day). In the past I remembered filling up around 420 miles on long trips--so, I was very surprised when I noticed that I was already on empty at ~280miles. Someone else must have noticed the same thing by now... Just had a complete tune up--and It's kept that way. Total Miles are below avg. KPLMPG 24.7 37.06 49.41 511.76 614.11 716.47 818.82 921.17 1023.52 1125.87 1228.23 Audrey, The 2003 Honda Odyssey should get 12 Km a Liter(Roughly 30MPG). I'm guessing that the Minivan's Computer is not in sync with the new transmission--causing the large drop in mileage. Your drop is even more extreme, to only be getting 5 Kilometers a Liter(12 MPG). Interestingly they had to replace this transmission twice. Thanks for your reply.

A: get a full tune up, sounds like u putting the miles on. New plugs and wires New fuel filter both will improve your gas mileage and have your tire pressure checked

Q: I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey that I just bought. Well this morning it wouldn't start???
The Maint. Req light came up and the dealer told me to take it to get a change of oil. The light been on only for 2 days, and this morning it wouldn't start. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong? Of course I am taking it in to get it checked but I am upset, I havn't had the car for 1 month yet!!! It has oil, the battery is brand new, and the lights inside are on, It just won't start. No Fuel smell and it has 56,000 miles.

A: I THINK the maint. req light on there is just a "dummy" light that will come on every X miles to remind you to get routine service. This is different from a "check engine" light. Drive it to autozone and have them check the battery and alternator (for free). Might simply be a bad battery.

Q: 2003 Honda Odyssey shift lever gets stuck in Park. Any solutions?

A: Stop putting it in park ;-)

Q: 2003 Honda Odyssey shift lever problem?
It can not be pulled past "D" gear. They go in the following order, P R N D 1 2 D4 The first 4 gears are OK. What could be the problem?

A: those are all done while your driving...low gear is meant to be shifted into while your moving in regular Drive not when your stationary...if that doesnt work then u have a problem

Q: 2003 Honda Odyssey wheel noise?
My Odyssey makes a whining noise that increases in tone with wheel speed - NOT engine RPMs; while rolling, I shifted into neutral and revved the engine - the sound remained constant. At lower speed (under 30 mph), it almost feels as if something is rubbing or grinding, but as I rotated tires, the rear wheels seemed to spin smoothly. There is no popping or other sounds that might indicate CJ joint trouble. I suspect either rear bearings or a transmission issue; this van has already had the recall repair done, but I realize as I type this that I have not checked the transmission fluid level. Opinions? Sorry for the typo - that's CV joint.

A: bad wheel bearing.depending on which side it is making noise from,if when you turn left the noise gets louder its your right bearing,if you turn right and it gets louder its your left bearing.

Q: Anyone one out there with a Honda Odyssey 2003 with noise in the passenger side windshield area. ??
Thanks for someones answer. but this noise only seems to appear when the temperture drops to a minus 20 does not need to be windy to make the noise

A: Honda has two service tips on wind noise on that model Odyssey. The first is if the noise is coming from to top rear of the passenger front door and the noise is heard in strong crosswinds then they recommend lowering the passenger door window and 'bending' the upper rear corner of the window frame inward 2.5mm to put more pressure on the sub-seal. use a block of wood between the door and the jamb as you push on the rear upper corner of the window frame. Obviously you don't want to get carried away or use a hammer or anything, just use enough force to move the top of the frame inwards. the second tip has to do with the roof rack if you have one on your car. the roof rack rails have a rubber insert in the track. Those inserts cannot have any gaps between the sections, that is, they need to butt together. if there are gaps you can get a wind noise. The rails they refer to are the cross rails that go side to side rather then the ones that goe front to rear. I've also seen it where the roof rails are reversed when they were installed and that will cause the noise as well. Before bending the door try this: you can use masking tape to tape all around the passenger door where there are gaps between the door and the body. Also tape around the window where it meets the window frame and the door. Then drive the car. If the noise is gone, then you know the noise is from the door frame or seal. You can then remove the tape one section at a time and drive it; when the noise comes back that's where the air leak is. if the noise doesn't go away with everything taped off then the noise is from the roof rack, the mirror or possibly the antenna. hope that helps
