Q: Can any body help me with a problem I have with my 2001 honda passport?
I purchased my vehicle about 1 1/2 year ago. It runs well and I haven't had any major problems with it. There is a small oil leak due to what the oil shop said was a corroded seal which he said is common in these cars. Anyways, this past fall, I started noticing a noise when starting the car. The best way to describe this noice is like a metallic rapping or rattling noise. Like I said only when first starting the car in the morning. It then progressed to happening more often mostly when accellerating. It now happens all the time. I called the honda dealership and the man I spoke with suggested getting an oil change which I did immediately at a different shop. This did not help the problem at all. Does anyone have any answers or suggestions. Other than the noise the car seems to be running well. I am short on cash at the moment. Can I wait for awhile to bring it in or should i do so immediately?

A: it could be a bad wheel bearing, or a loose bold on the frame.

Q: Why would my 2001 Honda Passport skip and hesitate when accelerating?
When I accelerate it hesitates to change gears and move .. Meanwhile there is skipping in the rear of the vehicle and then will suddenly jump into gear and kick forward.. I was told it could be a vacuum hose or a modulator valve. If so how do I know what it is without possibly taking it to the mechanic and costing too much money.. Could it be the transmission ??? Someone help? I have already changed the filter and flushed the tansmission fluid...What now?

A: Get it diagnosed, that's an electronically controlled transmission so there shouldn't be a vacuum modulator valve on that transmission. Could be as simple as the filter is getting plugged, you could try draining the fluid, replacing the filter and refilling with fresh fluid. A place like Jiffy-Lube can do this too.

Q: I am considering purchasing a 2001 Honda passport. Would you recommend this vehicle to a close friend?

A: The Honda Passport is not really a Honda at all and I would not suggest for you to purchase it, it is an Isuzu that was purchased by Honda to sell as a quick fix in the SUV market. It was discontinued with the release of the Honda Pilot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Passport

Q: Re: 2001 Honda Passport. When I put a CD in the changer, it just says "error" and doesn't play it. Answers?
Does anyone have a solution? The radio works ok and I haven't tried the cassette player yet. I bought it from a used car dealer. Thanks for your help.

A: Is this a "home made" CD? If so, it might be in a format the car player can't read (like MP3). Try a store bought CD, if that doesn't work either then you'll either have to live with it or replace it. Crutchfield is a great site for audio systems if you decide to replace it.

Q: Is the 2001 Honda Passport a good car or no?
THE MPG IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!! ESPECIALLY WITH GAS PRICES THE WAY THEY ARE!!!

A: The Passport is not a real Honda, it is based on the same platform as The Isuzu Rodeo and Trooper. Don't expect Honda quality or reliabilty out of an Isuzu with an H glued on it. A 4WD Automatic of the 2001 Passport gets 15city/19highway, typical SUV mileage.

Q: idling issue with my 2001 honda passport?
I have a stop 2001 honda passport that will not idle properly the car wants to die when you come to a stop at a red light or stop sign it always starts right back up. It runs perfect when you going at a constant speed. They have replaced the fuel sending unit and replaced the oxygen sensor and they cleaned the throttle body. I just got it from the garage after they said it was running great and was fixed and its doing the same thing. I'm taking it back to them to see whats wrong again what do you think it could be? no check engine lights are on or anything

A: replacing the fuel sending unit and the oxygen sensor has nothing to do with your honda idling properly. If there was a check engine light that came on then yes I'd say the o2 sensor is bad. you probably have a bad throttle position sensor. does the rpm goes up and down?

Q: re: 2001 Honda Passport. How do I set the alarm system? The owners manual I have doesn't address that.?

A: The Honda Passport (built under contract by Isuzu, and also sold as the Isuzu Rodeo) *does* have a factory Keyless Entry/Alarm System – optional. If you have the Keyless Entry feature, then you also have an Alarm. If you bought it used, and your Passport did not come with Key Fobs, but there is a Little Red Light on the dash, located within one of the ‘Dummy Switches’ – then you have the Remote/Alarm System; you just need a replacement Fob to use it. If you have to order new Fobs, here is how to program them: http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=1929 Hope this helps.

Q: Automatic transmission on Honda Passport stalling engine and surging forward when stopped
I've got a 2001 honda passport, after is warms up if I stop suddenly the engine will cut off because the transmission is not letting the engine slow down. Also when I am coming to a normal stop, the tranny will not let the engine drop in RPMs causing it to kinda jump or surge forward. I've just had the tranny fluid changed and checked again, its good to go, just having the problems above still.

A: Buy american

Q: My check engine light is on.. and i'm burning a lot of oil its a 01 honda passport. is this a serious problem?
i took it to Auto Zone and the guy hooked up a test under the dash of my vehicle.he said it was a defective or looser fuel cap.. evap canister or hose cracked or not connected...purge or vent solenoid defective... vacuum leak at engine. It has been burning a lot of oil lately but not leaking any...and just today it started idleing funny... Does anyone think this is a serious problem..i don't have the money to put into it right now... its a 2001 honda passport....

A: This happenned to my 98 civic. It turned out to be a dead cylinder. Get a compression test done. You can probably get that done pretty cheap. If you know anybody that works on cars its not all that hard, you just need the tester. A dead cylinder will require an engine rebuild or a new engine. It's not cheap, but neither is trying everything under the sun hoping that its not.

A: The lower intake manifold gaskets have been known to leak. Pour a bucket of water onto the intake manifold while it is running and listen for the sucking noise as well as engine vibration from a misfire. Get every part of it. Another strange problem is sudden dieing while idling. Believe it or not, the incorrect spark plugs can cause this. Looks like they haven't been touched, though.

Q: How do you replace the transmission range switch?
I have a 2001 Honda Passport Ex, I've had it diagnosed and it's the range switch, how hard is it to do it myself and how do I do it?

Connect transmission harness connector to mode switch connector. the honda book time to replace the switch including the adjustment is 0.5 hour assuming you have a lift and the digital multimeter Hope that helps

Q: How much $$ to fix Rear Wheel Bearing axle seal?
How much does it cost to replace Rear Wheel Bearing axle seal for Honda Passport 4X4 2001? (Both Sides)

A: Honda's are a pain, usually, when it comes with wheel bearings like many japanese imports. You might have to buy a complete hub instead of bearings for both sides because they press the bearing into the hub during manufacturing. So a dealership or part store is not ripping you off if they try and sell you an entire hub, which for my 90 accord costs about $235. 4X4 might cost you more, or because its a newer car than im use to working on, they may sell you the seal separately.

Q: Car problems... transmission maybe?
I havee a 2001 Honda Passport, automatic transmission. Lately when I go from a stop sign or where ever, when going into first gear it sort of jumps- kinda like a manual transmission popping the clutch. Does this sound expensive?

A: You may just simply need to add some transmission fluid to resolve this issue. Have the fluid level checked and while they are checking it ask them how the color looks on it. If it is discolored or smells burnt you will want to have the transmission flushed and the fluid changed (this should be done every 60,000 miles on Honda's if I remember correctly) if this still does not resolve your issue then yes, you need to have the transmission rebuilt. this can be quite costly.

Q: Is this a good car/deal?
2001 Honda Passport, sunroof does not work, they might reduce the price because of this. http://www.westsidelexus.com/?http://westside-lexus-tx.ebizautos.com/website.aspx?_used=true&_vstatus=2,3,4,5 http://westside-lexus-tx.ebizautos.com/webdetail.aspx?iid=2694089

A: A good call on the cigarette burns in the seats. The tires also don't look to have a lot of tread left. I would definitely need to see it in person. It looks like it was just washed for the pictures, so the paint may not be as good as it looks while wet.

Q: 1999 Honda Accord Sdn or 2001 Honda Passport 2WD?
I'd like to buy the 2001 which has just gone on sale for $6,995 but I don't want to destroy the environment with a big car. Can you answer some questions for me, please? Does anyone know: Gas mileage? Are these good/reliable vehicles? Gas Guzzlers? Reliable in extreme weather (icy, rain, snow)? My other option is a 1999 Honda Accord Sdn. Which is better? Which would you choose? Thanks a lot!

A: 2001 honda is better And you can try http://www.usedcarsinfo.info/ 90% off Retail Value. Good luck!
