I have a 1989 Honda Prelude Si, the car is yellow, and i was wondering since i am going to get the color changed, I am wondering if there is any car color chooser site, or any information on what colors look best ect, or if you have a 89 prelude what color is yours..

A: I used to have a Prelude '86 model. It was red and I thought I was hot shiit in it. Candy Apple red is the perfect color for the Prelude. You could always call Pimp My Ride and have it tricked out.

Q: 1989 Honda Prelude Transmission?
I have a 1989 honda prelude and the transmission just went out. i was wondering if i could put the transmission from a 1989 honda civic into my prelude instead of having to buy a new transmission or rebuild the one that is broken. they are both automatic transmissions.

A: Check with a good salvage yard. They should have a Hollander interchange manual that can provide you with the information you need. ASE certified 22yrs.

I need more oil but have no idea what to put in. Thanks

A: try 5 w 30

Q: how do I fix my speedometer on my 1989 Honda Prelude 2.0 Si?
My speedometer stopped working for almost 8 months, but my RPM sitll work, how do I fix it?

A: Could be the cable. It could also be a grounding problem under the hood that ended in the cable. If the proper ground is loose or not connected, the car will try to ground to whatever metal objects that are available. You cable could have been fried in this way. A cable shouldn't be very expensive and you'll just need to snake it from one place to the other place.

Q: Where can I get a free illustration of all hoses that could have a leak for a 1989 honda prelude si,2.0?
I see coolant on ground but not sure where its coming from. Car was low on coolant, overheated, I flushed it & checked radiator hoses for leaks and couldn't find any. Not sure wher else it could be coming from. Its on the front of motor.

A: I own 2 Honda Preludes a 1990 and a 1991. It wouldn't be the water pump as it is located on the alternator side of the engine. Is it a big leak or just an occasional drip? If its a small leak the problem can be with the thermostat housing gasket. Not the thermostat gasket, but where the housing meets the block. If its a big leak and the car seems to overheat quickly, it can be that a hose burst. Clean all the possible places where the coolant lines run. Start the car and let it warm up to operating temp. If one of your hoses has burst you'll be able to see where the coolant is coming from. There also a lot of coolant lines that are hard to reach behind and under the intake manifold. www.preludepower.com is one of the largest 3g (1988-91 Prelude) forums. Q: 1989 Honda Prelude starting problem?
I have a 1989 Honda prelude automatic 2.0 si i have been having starting problems my car will start then when i go into a store and come back out it wont turn on i have to sit in the car for up to a half hour til it will turn on at times it wont even turn on when it hasn't been turned on in a while i heard it may something called the main relay switch what is that and were is it at in my car? How much does it cost and is it something i have to take in for someone to put in or can i do it and how long does it take can you also tell me what it looks like so i know what i am looking for? When calling for the part what is the correct term is in Main relay switch? do you happen to know how much it cost? i want to thank you for you help Also when i know that my car wont start its when i see that the check engine light is on and it wont go off till it goes off i know my car will turn on

A: The main relay is located under the dash near your left knee, attached to the fuse box. This is common with third gens, I know because I have two of them, a 90 and a 91. If you have used a soldering iron you can fix it yourself. Just make sure that you have solder and the soldering iron because once this is out you wont be able to start your car at all. All you do is: Remove the 2 10mm bolts that hold the fuse box. Once that is down you will see a black box with a connector. Disconnect it and take out the box. "Remove the plastic cover from the relay. You'll see the printed circuit board and all the solder points. Add a little solder to each making sure you melt the old solder." Put everything back and you're good! If you want to just buy one and avoid the hassle here's the part number: 1989-1991 Prelude 2.0Si, Si - 39400-SF1-013 RELAY ASSY., MAIN (RZ-0081) (4P) (MITSUBA) Here is a website specifically for 3g preludes. www.Preludepower.com www.prelude3g.com the latter is where you can find fixes for common problems. Very informative. It also has pictures for the procedure I just described. Good luck! Preludes FTW!

Q: Fog light fuse keeps going in 1989 honda prelude. Please help?
Hi, I have a 1989 Honda Prelude and the fuse keeps going whenever i turn the front fog lights on. it is the right fuse for the job (15a). just wondering what could be wrong.. Thanks, any help is appreciated

A: Very simple it's blowing because some part of the wireing is touching ground you need to pull the cord and check every sigle part of it with the it happens it mostly if the wire is expose somewhere is touching the metal I recommend that you can do 2 things pull the old installation and make new wire seal it with black tape all arround so do not happened again or its kinda danger but it works,... Unplug your (+) on your battery then get a higher fuse like 30a then as soon you get it in plug battery conector back and on seconds you would see smoke some where unplug realquick the battery and there is your problem !!!

Q: 1989 honda prelude motor 2.0 si?
i have a honda prelude 1989 2.0si i only had it for a little while and when i was driving the RPM's when down and the check service soon light came on and now my car wont start i already put in a new main relay switch a mechanic told me it was the timing chain and that it would be best if i get a motor cause if the timing chain broke then the head is no good were can i buy a motor please help as soon as possible

A: Don's Auto Mall in NY is good for motors. He's right about the chain but if it breaks and you shut it down immediately you can save the engine. I don't know I would get an engine if that one wasn't cooked. If it needs a chain get a chain. Take it to the dealer or another mechanic for a 2nd opinion. That costs a little but at least you would be sure.

Q: 1989 honda prelude 2.0 si motor?
i have a honda prelude 1989 2.0si i only had it for a little while and when i was driving the RPM's when down and the check service soon light came on and now my car wont start i already put in a new main relay switch a mechanic told me it was the timing chain and that it would be best if i get a motor cause if the timing chain broke then the head is no good were can i buy a motor please help as soon as possible

A: Those engines are rarer that than a steak that is still on a grazing cow. I just tried to help my friend find one about 2 months ago. We gave up after a week. Find someone who is willing to rebuild it. Heads are easier to find that entire engines. At any rate, good luck.

Q: where can i find a harmonic vaulve or a 1989 honda prelude?

A: Never heard of a harmonic valve. Harmonic balancer maybe? Try salvage yards or the dealer.

Q: I have a 1989 honda prelude.?
I have a 1989 honda prelude. Just wondering if there are any performance parts out there that could make my car better. I dont want to race the car just want to upgrade it. Suspension, HP what is out there?

A: There are many options in the suspension department... mostly just coil springs over the stock shocks. A perfectly good option if you are going cheaper but will still get a decent improvement in cornering. That is if you arent buying the $25 one on ebay. Some name brand decent set of springs with good reviews. Tokiko makes a full coil over system for this car... 1.5" drop front 1.4" drop rear. There is a bit better set up for about twice the price by K_Sport. A little lower drop stiffer springs, etc. theres your suspension options that I know of Brakes will really help out when you can more confidently reach a turn at a higher speed. You can get a set of brembo rotors all 4 and some higher performance brake pads for a decent price. As for HP its hard to find much of anything besides from custom machined parts, and either a frankenstein style turbo kit, or something one off made from scratch. Atleast I havent been able to find much of anything for my 88Si done MUCH research considering the rarity for parts on this car... if people our there know where they are please tell me... i understand the pain man

Q: 1989 honda prelude jdm scene please answer asap!!!?
im looking to buy a 1989 honda prelude, can i convert that to a import tuner car, like the ones in fast and furious?

A: I have a 90 and a 91 prelude. They are one of the hardest Honda's to modify. There is not alot of aftermarket support for our generation Preludes. Don't rice out you're lude though, it's not a pretty sight. Leave that up to the civic and teg owners. Alot of the body kits are becoming rare and pricey, Engine mods are hard to come by, and our B20a5/B21a1 do not share the common characteristics with other B series engines. Some B-series parts from tegs and civics fit with alot of modification though. Our cars have a pretty good stock suspension setup, especially if equipped with 4WS. But there is so few choices when upgrading the suspension as well. Tokico Blues and Ground Control Coil Overs is probably the best strut/spring combo. Whiteline makes swaybars. Go to www.preludepower.com, it's a forum with a large 3g (88-91) community and there are always group buys on custom made products. We currently have H22 swap mounts, STBs and other things. If you want a JDM prelude, you'd have to import one. Look up the Prelude INX. It's a lude with no flip up lights. Its a mix between a 3g and a 4g lude.
