Q: What should the idle be for a 1993 Honda Prelude?
Does anyone know what the idle should be for a '93 Honda Prelude SI, 2.3L, standard? It's currently at about 1100, but someone told me that seems higher than it should be. I can always use the idle screw to turn it down a bit. Thanks for any feedback

A: Perfect idle is any where from 500rpm to 1000rpm. But in an aftermarket tuned engine it will vary on your application of parts you've installed. Good Luck...

Q: Replacing a 1993 Honda Prelude Radiator?
How hard is it to replace the radiator on a 1993 Honda Prelude..would you rate this a beginner, middle, or hard job? Anything to be careful of from those that have done it...any advise or steps to share?

A: Hey Dude, This is a pretty easy job as it goes . Give yourself plenty of time 2 to 3 hours. First drain the coolant(plug at bttm of radiator) and then disconnect the fan motor wires. Then you have about 6 or 8 bolts . After you remove them, then entire radiator will come out. Once you have it out then lay it flat to unbolt both fans (check fan blades for nicks and broken fins) Mount motors on the new radiator and install ..

Q: How do I get my 1993 Honda Prelude VTEC to start?
I have replaced the starter and battery. It will make a clicking sound but will not turn over The alternator has been checked and tested fine. grounds have been checked and loose cables aswell. no corrosion and has new fuel pump.

A: Check to see if you're getting spark. Have someone get into the driver's seat; ready to turn the key. Take out the spark plugs 1 at a time, starting with the #1 cylinder (closest to the timing belt). Re-attach the plug to the plug wire, and touch the end of the spark plug to a place that is grounded, like the nut that has the ground wire on the front driver's side of the valve cover. Have the person in the car turn the key briefly, and see if it makes a spark. While you're doing this, also check the condition of your spark plugs. Not having spark could be a problem with bad spark plugs, broken wire(s) in the spark plug wires, or bad distributor. If it's making a clicking sound, then the starter should be working. Also listen to the fuel pump when you turn the key to the ON position, it could be a bad relay that isn't allowing the fuel pump to turn on.

Q: Replacing Ignition Lock Cylinder 1993 Honda Prelude?
Hello there, I just purchased a new lock cylinder for my Prelude, yet was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on how to go about doing this. Thank you.

A: hey, i'm not saying this is the way, but years ago you would put the key in the ignition, TURN IT COUNTER CLOCKWISE then there was a small pin hole on the faceplate where the key goes. with the key in the ignition put a paper clip in the hole and the ignition switch should pop out. this was many moons ago. things change. have you tried asking an auto dealers parts department person for some advice? that above info was for american made cars. good luck to ya

Q: 1993 honda prelude vtec auto electrical problem. Sometimes doesn't start sports light flashes on dash?

A: don't quite understand what you are asking as a flashing S light is typically not connected to a no start. the S light flashing means that the automatic transmission control has detected a problem in the control system sensors or outputs. It usually indicates a bad vehicle speed sensor but can mean other things. Did you notice what gear is indicated when you have the light flashing and the no start? I'm thinking that the range switch that tells the control unit what gear you are in isn't working correctly. what happens when it doesn't start? does it not crank? do you have no response to turning the key or does the engine turn over and not fire? the no start could be caused by a bad transmission range switch. try starting the car in Neutral instead of in Park the next time it happens. if the car starts in Neutral the range switch or the adjustment of the switch is your most likely cause. if there is no response to turning the key you could have a battery issue or a starter issue in addition to the transmission problem that is causing the S light to come on. Everything in the trans control system that is related to starting can be working right so that you get power to the starter but if the starter is defective (high resistance) it won't start. same with a low battery that doesn't have the current to turn the starter. check the connections on the starter and the battery. if you have a voltmeter you could check for power to the starter when the car doesn't start and that would tell you if you have a problem with the trans side or the starter side. i think you have two separate problems. unfortunately there's not enough information to give you any more to go on hope that helps

Q: Attention Honda Gurus: 1993 Prelude VTEC question?!?
I recently bought a 1993 Honda Prelude Si with a 4 speed automatic transmission. On the back of the car it says DOHC VTEC, and the guy that sold it said it had a VTEC engine in it. Yet, it's doesn't have an emblem, logo, sign or a print anywhere on or around the engine that says "VTEC" on it. Question 1) Are there some VTEC engines that don't say "VTEC" on them or did this guy lie to me? (How do I even know if it is a VTEC?) Question 2) Does anyone know for sure whether the 1993 Honda Prelude VTECs came with automatic transmissions, or manual only? (Edmunds.com shows manual only, which is why I am even more skeptical about it being a VTEC). Question 3) Where would I find out for sure whether the engine under my hood is built on VTEC technology or is a regular Honda engine? (Any sources, websites and numbers would be very much appreciated). Thanks for all of your time and I hope that you will offer an answer based on your knowledge and not for the sake of gaining a few points!

A: let me just give it to you straight. Its not a VTEC honda, if it was a VTEC it would say it right on the Valve Cover for the Preludes. Its not soo much of a big deal if its VTEC or not dude you still have a decent engine either way. The H23a1 (2.3 l) DOHC has more torque and better low end power than the H22a1 (2.2) which will get higher rpm. IF VTEC is that important to you then you can also swap for an H22 cylinder head. Iv'e seen many preludes and i cannot think of an H22 that was not an automatic transaxle but the H23 came optional. Now i am not 110% sure that your car is NOT a VTEC, im only telling you what i know. I think that the only model Prelude SI they made with the VTEC engine was the 91 JDM prelude SI.

Q: CAN I SWAP AN h22a4 OR AND H23 ENGINE OF A HONDA PRELUDE INTO MY 1993 CIVIC?
OK I HAVE A 1993 CIVIC AND I WANT TO SWAP A 1997 HONDA PRELUDE MOTOR AN h22a4 IS IT POSSIBLE? AND WILL MY CAR PASS EMISSIONS IN INDIANA WITH THE SWAP .... I HAVE HEARD YOU CANT SWAP A 2.2 MOTOR INTO THE PLACE OF A 1.6 MOTOR ?? DONT KNOW IF THAT IS TRUE ALSO WANT TO KNOW IF I COULD SWAP A 1993 HONDA PRELUDE MOTOR IF SO WHICH WOULD BE A BETTER AND OR CHEAPER SWAP?

A: Swap Info 5th gen 92-95 civic H22a H23a Trans: All 92- up Prelude 5 speed trans and 92-up Accord trans. Trans with ATTS will require major wiring mods. Mounts: Hasport mount kit M92- H22-10 ECU: Use ECI that came with the engine with proper mods to wiring. For 96-up engines either back date eletronics and use appropriate OBD1 ECU or use adapter harness and make proper wiring mods. Electrical Differences: CX and VX need to convert to a 4 wire O2. Non-VTEC models need VTEC solenoid and VTEC pressure. Add EGR solenoid and EGR valve except for VX. All models modify stock harness to fit, add air intake by pass wiring, and add knock sensor. Axles: Use 90- up Accord Intermediate shaft with 90-93 Integra axles. To use Prelude intermediate shaft a short left hand axle with a female inner joint must be used. To construct the proper left-hand axle use 94 GSR left-hand axle inner and outer joints on an 86-89 Integra axle shaft. Shift Linkage: These trans use cables instead of linkage. The shifter mechanism and cables from these vehicles may be used, 90-up, Accord 5 speed or 92- up Prelude 5 speed cables and linkage. This will require some cutting and drilling. Upper radiator hose: 90 Integra LS, trim to fit Lower radiator hose: 94 Del SOL VTEC Throttle Cable: 98 Prelude Clutch Hydraulics: Stock Special Instructions: THe mounting bracket on the right-hand frame will need to be removed or it will interfere with the shifter assembly. A thin fan or pusher fan will have to be used with radiator. Radiator should be upgraded to a Del SOL VTEC radiator for increased cooling. Special Considerations: Suspension and brake upgrades a good idea. The H22A is 175 to 185lbs heavier than stock D-series drive trains and 85lbs heavier than a B16A drivetrain. www.jdmsource.ca this is the best place to get a good motor/trans for cheap with shipping. Hope this helps your decision!! Good Luck !

Q: I need to know what kind of motor you can swap into a 1993 Honda Prelude Coupe?
It a 5 speed thats all I know

A: it's not a b-block, it's an F22a1 for the S model, an H22a1 if it's an Si, and the VTEC model is a H23a1. the 1990-93 honda accord ex motor is a direct fit for the S model. the H-blocks can be from the CRV.
